Alphabet Songs

The school year is not even over and I am already starting to think about and prepare for next year.  One of the things that is so amazing, as well as so rewarding for me is just how much progress the students make in one year's time.  I always reflect back to the beginning of the year.  Many of my students come to First Grade not even knowing their alphabet, but then when they leave, they have their ABC's  mastered and are reading and writing.  Amazing what they learn in one year!  I'm always so proud of my little Firsties!

One of the activities I use to help review or for some students learn the alphabet is our Alphabet Books.  There are 26 pages in the book - a page for each letter.  We review correct letter formation, practice writing the letter and then as a class we come up with words that begin with that letter, write them and illustrate them.

I discovered a wonderful website that I use each day while the students are working in their Alphabet Book.  If you have not checked it out, you really should, it's "Have Fun Teaching" !  This website has so much to offer teachers!

We work on one letter each day.  As we are practicing writing the letter, we watch the alphabet video for that letter.  The students absolutely love it and get so excited when I turn it on each day!  I love the modern beat and sound of each song!  Each one is so "catchy"!

You can see an example below for Letter A:

You should really check out the Alphabet Songs!  You will fall in love and so will your students!
